Space Exploration......is it worth the money?

OK so we have a few satellites orbiting the earth and they are well worth the money for the cable TV, gps, and cell phones they provide. Does that justify sending billions of dollars to Mars and Jupiter to take pictures of rocks? We could really use those billions here on earth right now. Should we pull the plug on space exploration until we stabilize our economy?
