Good Historical Figures?

I have a history summative that i need to write a paper on a historical figure (i want to do a person) i was wondering if anyone had any good ideas (they need to be before 1600). i dont really wanna do someone like hannibal, julius cesar, alexander or ghengis khan as im sure they will be complicated. i would prefer to do someone who i could reserch but isnt all that well known. any ideas?
