After the war ends. should you kid you orphaned be your responsibility?

I heard this concept from a movie about the life of Gandhi. He was in the middle of one of his hunger strikes and one of the Muslims asked him what more he could do because he already stopped fighting. Gandhi said to take the child of a Hindu you orphaned and raise him as your own. What do you think of this concept? Is it too noble for us Americans? Or is it impractical? I'm not a soldier but I can't help but wonder what is our responsibility to the children of the people we kill. Its not the kids fault that who their parents are or what they do. your thoughts. and please be mature.
