Can I deduct my health insurance premiums?
My employer pays for my health insurance, but it does not pay for spouse/dependent insurance. My husband and I decided to add our son to my policy. The way my employer does this is it pays the total premium for me and my son, and then I reimburse my employer for the cost ociated with my son's coverage. So the check I write out for our son's coverage uses after-tax dollars and is made out to my employer, not to the health insurance company. Will we be able to deduct the amount corresponding with the cost of our son's coverage on our taxes? Or does writing the check made payable to my employer prevent us from being able to deduct the expense?
